Since vs From
Viete prečo je táto veta nesprávne? They are married from 1991. V prvom rade sme použili zle predložku “from”. Musíme použiť “since”. A so “since” používame „present perfect simple“ alebo „present perfect continuous“. Takze správne by bola táto veta nasledovne: “They have been married since 1991.”
“Since” používame keď hovoríme odkedy niečo trvá a stále to trvá.
- I have been here since 8 o clock. (Som tu od 8.)
- You have been working here since last year. (Pracuješ tu od minulého roka.)
- She has been waiting for you since 7. (Čaká na teba od 7.)
- It has been raining since yesterday. (Od včera prší.)
“From” používame keď niečo časovo ohraničujeme, alebo pre budúcnosť.
- I was there from September to December. (Bola som tam od septembra do decembra.)
- They were married from 1991 to 1995. (Boli vzatí od 1991 do 1995.)
- He usually works from 9 to 5. (Pracuje zvyčajne od 9 do 5.)
- He will be here from 8 o‘clock. (Bude tu od 8.)
Všimnite si rozdiel v nasledovných vetách:
- They have been married since 1991. (They are still married.)
- They were married from 1991 to 1995. (They are divorced now.)
- I have been studying English since last year. (I am still studying.)
- I studied English from January until May. (I don‘t study anymore.)
