Používanie časov v súvetiach (part 1)

Prečo si časy zjednodušujeme?

Ak z hlavnej vety vieme jasne porozumieť o akom čase hovoríme, nemusíme ten istý čas použiť aj vo vedľajšej vete.

• This discovery will mean that we spend less on food.
• I will pray that he wins.

Časy, použité vo vedľajších vetách, sú zvyčajne jednoduchšie ako tie v hlavných vetách. Napríklad namiesto budúceho času použijeme prítomný, namiesto predminulého času použijeme minulý čas atď.

• You’ll find Coca-Cola wherever you go. (NOT … wherever you will go.)
• He would never do anything that went against his conscience.
• I hadn’t understood what she said.

Prítomný čas namiesto budúceho

Prítomný čas, namiesto budúceho (will), používame vo vedľajšej vete veľmi často aj napriek tomu, že vyjadrujeme budúcnosť. Takáto situácia nastáva najmä po spojkách vyjadrujúcich čas: when, until, after, before, as soon as, ale aj po if, whether, on condition that, a zámenách what, where, which, who, whose…

• I’ll write to her, when I have time.
• Will you stay here until the plane takes off?
• It will be interesting to see whether he recognizes you.
• I’ll go where you go.
• He says he’ll give five dollars to anybody who finds his pen.

Táto situácia sa nemení ani v prípade, že sloveso v hlavnej vete je síce v prítomnom čase, ale vyjadruje budúcnosť (budúcnosť môžeme vyjadriť aj prítomným časom).

• Call me when you arrive.
• Make sure you come back soon.
• You can tell who you like next week, but not until then.

Pri porovnávaní a teda ak používame as a than, je možné použiť obe formy – prítomný čas aj budúci čas.

• She’ll be on the same train as we are/will tomorrow.
• We’ll get there sooner than you do/will.

Predprítomný čas namiesto predbudúceho

Predprítomný čas používame vo vedľajšej vete namiesto predbudúceho času v prípade ak vyjadrujeme, že akcia bude ukončená.

• I’ll call you when I’ve finished. (NOT … when I will have finished.)
• At the end of the year there will be an exam on everything you’ve studied. (NOT … everything you will have studied.)

Budúci čas vo vedľajších vetách

Ak z hlavnej vety nevieme určiť či ide o budúcnosť, vyjadríme ju vo vedľajšej vete. To isté platí aj v prípade, že hlavná veta odkazuje na iný čas/ iné obdobie v budúcnosti.

• I don’t know where she will be tomorrow.
• I’m sure I won’t understand a word.
• I’ll hide it somewhere where he’ll never find it.
• If she calls, I’ll tell her that I’ll call back later.
